Pendant with jaguar and condor, symbols of great importance for the cultures of South America.
At Chavín de Huantar, an ancient site located in the Peruvian province of Huari, north of Lima, two temples were found, one old and one more recent with many carved figures inside them that looked like a jaguar and a condor, sometimes even joined together.
The jaguar is considered the perfect animal. Fully inserted into nature and a great hunter, it was the emblem of what a warrior was supposed to be: becoming jaguar-like, the man/hunter acquired the characteristic of strength, cunning, agility, calm, determination and precision.
The condor was the representation of the sun: combining the two animals in a religious totem -as found in the oldest of the aforementioned temples- symbolized a higher state of consciousness, able to rule the higher world.
